West End Golf Course-A Recreational Space for all Ages for Over 50 Years.

The History of West End Golf Course

West End Golf Course has been enjoyed by North Florida residents for over 50 years. West End opened in 1969, originally as a 9-hole lighted course that featured night golf. By 1970, it was an 18-hole fully lighted course with a driving range, putting green, and chipping area. Since that time, West End has been a place for families to enjoy time outdoors together, for friends to socialize, and for thousands of young children and adults to learn the game of golf. The land upon which West End was built was zoned for recreation starting in 1991 and running out to 2040. This land has been an anchor and centerpiece for the Jonesville community, and is a valuable green space that is currently being threatened by efforts to change the land use and zoning designations to Residential.

 West End Golf Course-Reimagined

It is well known that recreational green space is the most cost-effective way to improve human health and quality of life. Green space enhances immune function, reduces pollution, decreases noise, encourages exercise, and provides space for socializing. WECARE has reimagined the green space at West End as a multigenerational, multi-use facility that would bring people together and strengthen the community. Compare the plans shown below and consider which community you would rather be a part of!

If the land use and zoning designations of West End are changed to Residential, developers plan to construct 487 to 750 new homes, a hotel, and commercial businesses in a community in which 1,492 residences are already under construction.
