The purpose of this blog is to afford the community an opportunity to voice your thoughts and ideas relative to the current plan to develop the West End golf course. If the current county comprehensive land use plan and zoning designations of West End are changed to Residential, developers plan to construct 487 to 750 new homes, a hotel, and commercial businesses on this critical greenspace. WECARE would like to hear from you! When posting your comments, please be respectful and courteous of others and their respective opinions.
Demonstration Planned for March 4th!
It’s time to protest the rezoning of the West End Golf Course property from Recreation to Residential. Get your old posters out or make new ones and join the demonstrations in front of the golf course Friday, 18th of February 4:30-5:30 pm, Monday, 21st of February 8:00-9:00 am and Friday, 25th from 4:30-5:30 pm.
A community-wide demonstration is planned for Friday, March 4th from 8:00-10:00am and 4:00-6:00 pm in front of the West End Golf Course. It is very important that we have a big turnout to show that ALL of the communities in the West End want the golf course property to remain Recreational. Teenagers, children accompanied by an adult, seniors, and all citizens of Alachua County who want to keep this property Recreational for all to use should make time to come to this very important demonstration.
Save the date, alert your family, friends, neighbors, coworkers to join us. Make a sigh, decorate your golf cart or bring a chair and SHOW UP. Stay the Course!

A comment on the revised plan to build on West End
A couple of years ago we began our efforts to stop the rezoning of West End Golf Course. Mr. Sayed Moukhtara is wanting to purchase the property & change the zoning from recreational to residential. In a zoom meeting with more than 100 of us in the Jonesville area community, Mr. Moukhtara said he would build something beautiful that we would be proud of. Do you think we should be proud of this? It looks like military barracks to me.
Very cleverly Mr. Moukhtara delayed his plans, revised his plans and now is hoping to be successful in his quest to secure residential zoning. All our efforts, letters, emails, TV coverage & demonstrations are in a past file. Please continue to support the efforts of WECARE to secure recreational property for our community.

Developer’s Plan for West End Submitted to Planning and Zoning
The developer’s plan is now before Planning and Zoning. The letters that were written for the last plan will be kept in a separate file. That means we need to write/email the County Commissioners to say why we want the West End Golf Course property to remain Recreation as shown on the Comprehensive Land Use Plan 2019-2040. I have sample letters for you to use totally or in part or say why you want this property to remain Recreational. Please send me an email if you want a sample letter(s) westendcare1969@gmail.com. The applicant has been informed of this and what additional information/materials are needed. Until the application is deemed complete, we will not process the request and begin our review.”

WECARE Survey Results to Date. Most respondents are female in the 65+ and 35-54 age groups and live within a 10-minute walk to the property. Most of the recreational activities’ respondents are currently engaged in are walking, golf/biking, swimming and running. An overwhelming number want a Clubhouse with bar/grill and an event center for senior activities. Respondents want a place to walk/run/bike, golf and enjoy nature.
