The purpose of this blog is to afford the community an opportunity to voice your thoughts and ideas relative to the current plan to develop the West End golf course. If the current county comprehensive land use plan and zoning designations of West End are changed to Residential, developers plan to construct 487 to 750 new homes, a hotel, and commercial businesses on this critical greenspace. WECARE would like to hear from you! When posting your comments, please be respectful and courteous of others and their respective opinions.

Bus Service to the Hearing

A 56-passenger coach has been reserved to transport people to the hearing on rezoning West End Golf Course.  The bus would leave around 4:15 pm and return by 8 pm to the Villas of West End clubhouse.  If you would like a ride to the hearing, please reserve a seat by Thursday evening, 9/22, at the latest.  A couple of seats have been donated so if you want to go and $10 is too much, let me know.  Just day-to-day living has become very expensive.  If you have a high school student that would like to participate, please let me know.  Contact Stephanie Phillips westendcare1969@gmail.com

If we do not get enough riders, we will need to cancel.  I will notify you by Friday.

Tuesday, September 27th County Commissioner’s hearing will determine whether the West End Golf Course will remain Recreational for all to enjoy or Residential so another Tara  development can be built.  It is critical that you attend this meeting.

Demonstration Planned for West End Golf Course

Photo of demonstrators in front of West End Golf Course.

Demonstrators show their support for keeping West End Golf Course zoned as recreation space. Another demonstration is scheduled for September 27th.

Get out your markers and poster board.   A demonstration, in front of the West End Golf Course, will be held on Friday, September 23rd between 4 and 6 pm.  This demonstration is to raise awareness of the upcoming Alachua County Commission hearing regarding the West End Golf Course property.

Date and Time: Tuesday, September 27th at 5 pm.
Place: 12 SE 1st Street, 2nd Floor

At this hearing, the Commissioners will determine if the Golf Course property designation will remain Recreation.  If the zoning is changed to Residential, the communities in the west end will see more houses, more traffic, more accidents, more air and water pollution, as well as the detrimental effects on our physical and mental health.

Please make an effort to attend these very important events.  Stay the Course!
